A deconstructed Philly Cheesesteak is turned into a craveable creamy, cheesy dip that’s full of thinly sliced ribeye steak, pepper and onions. This steak dip is the perfect hearty party appetizer for game days.

Football season is here and I think I am more excited to make game day food than I am to watch football games. It is such a fun genre of food to make. They are typically easy comforting recipes that can be thrown together with little effort.

Well, this Philly Cheesesteak Dip is no exception. It doesn’t require much prep and it’s so incredibly tasty. It tastes so much like a cheesesteak, you could scoop this onto hoagie bread and enjoy it as a sandwich!

Key Ingredients

Shaved ribeye – in the meat department, grab the container of shaved ribeye. You could use deli sliced roast beef as a substitute.

Green Bell Pepper – a large pepper adds so much flavor. I don’t typically add this to my cheesesteak, but in the dip form, it’s necessary for flavor.

Onion – a large yellow or white onion also imparts so much aromatics.

Banana Peppers – these tangy marinated peppers add a great tang.

Garlic – along with the pepper and onion, this adds a good amount of flavor.

Butter – just enough to saute the veggies before adding them to the dip.

Worcestershire sauce – a few teaspoons is added to the steak for an enhanced savory flavor.

Cream cheese – the main creamy component for this cheesesteak dip.

Sour Cream – this helps to freshen up the cream cheese. It helps spreadability and lightens up the heaviness of the cream cheese.

American cheese – white American cheese from the deli adds the classic creamy cheesiness we all love about Philly’s.

Provolone cheese – adds a little sharpness to cut all the creaminess. You could use all provolone or all American cheese if you prefer.

How To Make Philly Cheesesteak Dip

Prep

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray an 8×8 baking dish, cast iron or pie dish with nonstick spray.

Mix the Creamy Base

In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Beat together with a hand mixer until it’s smooth. Set aside.

Cook Steak

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Cook the shaved steak for about 3-4 minutes or until mostly cooked through, chopping it up with a spatula into bits as it cooks. Add Worcestershire into the pan and stir to combine. Fold steak into the cream cheese mixture.

Sauté Aromatics

Melt 2-3 tablespoons butter in the same skillet over medium low heat. Add the onions and saute about 10 minutes or until they start to caramelize. Add in the green peppers and continue to cook about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and saute until fragrant, about 1 minutes.

Mix Everything Together

Fold the pepper and onion mixture into the cream cheese mixture along with the banana peppers and salt and pepper. Fold in half of each cheese. Spread mixture into prepared baking dish, top with remaining cheese and bake for 30 minutes.

Optionally, you can broil for the final 2-3 minutes to get the top browned and bubbly. Serve warm with tortilla chips, baguettes, or veggie sticks.

Ingredients 

  • 1 lb. shaved ribeye
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large green bell pepper diced
  • 1 large white or yellow onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup banana pepper rings chopped
  • 1 – 8 oz. block block cream cheese room temp
  • 1 heaping cup sour cream
  • 8 oz american cheese deli slices chopped
  • 8 oz provolone cheese deli slices chopped
  • 1/2 tsp each: salt and freshly cracked pepper
