Behind This Wingstop Cajun Fried Corn Recipe

I used to be obsessed with the Cajun fried corn at Wingstop and found myself craving it all the time. So I decided to make my own version. In this recipe, we skip the need for deep frying and simplify this recipe by using an air fryer instead. The result? Tender, buttery corn that is bursting with flavor and doesn’t compromise any of that juiciness you get from Wingstop’s version.

The best part is that the prep takes about 5 minutes, and the cooking time is less than 15 minutes. Plus, it only requires a few ingredients – corn, butter, and Cajun seasoning. Be prepared to serve this at every party!

Tips from My Kitchen

  • Clean the corn well. Be sure to thoroughly clean the corn to remove all of the husk and corn silk (those little “hairs”). I find gently scrubbing with a potato cleaner is very helpful.
  • Cook in batches if needed. Don’t overfill the air fryer basket otherwise, the corn will cook unevenly. A single layer side by side is ideal.
  • Try other seasoning. If you feel like venturing out, you can use a different seasoning blend like the blackened seasoning found here in my Blackened Chicken Alfredo.
  • Adjust the cook time. Depending on your air fryer and the size of the corn, you may need to cook the corn for a few extra minutes. I start with 5 minutes on each side, but usually flip it a few additional times, adding 1-2 minutes each time.

Ingredients You’ll Need & Why

The list of ingredients needed to make this recipe is so short and sweet.

  • Corn – Fresh corn cobs that can be cut into small pieces. I have never tried this with frozen corn cobs but it should work.
  • Oil spray – I like to use avocado oil to spritz the corn before air frying. Feel free to use your favorite.
  • Butter – Combined with the seasonings to toss the corn in. Salted or unsalted both work here.
  • Cajun seasoning – I prefer to make my own Cajun seasoning to fully control the sodium and flavor. If you have a store-bought seasoning you love, feel free to use it.

How To Make Wingstop Cajun Corn at Home

This Cajun fried corn is made in the air fryer instead of the fryer to keep things quick and easy. Be sure to check out the printable instructions in the recipe card below.

  • Prep the corn. Husk and clean each corn cob. Cut them into 1.5 inch pieces of corn. I usually get 3-4 pieces per cob.
  • Air fry. Place the corn pieces in the air fryer. Spritz with oil. Cook at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Flip, spritz with oil again, and cook for another 5 minutes. Adjust the same as needed to achieve a golden brown color. Mine took 13-14 minutes total.
  • Make the seasoned butter. Heat the butter in the microwave until mostly melted. Whisk in the cajun season.
  • Season the corn. Add the warm corn into the bowl of seasoned butter. Toss evenly to coat on all sides. I like to use a basting brush to get in all the crevices.
  • Enjoy. Serve the Cajun corn immediately with ranch dressing for dipping.

What To Serve It With

This Cajun fried corn makes a great appetizer for summer BBQs and parties. It’s also the perfect side dish to compliment any comfort food recipe like my Smothered Chicken and Gravy or my Loaded Baked Potato with Steak Bites.

I also highly recommend serving it with something to dip it in. Ranch is my go-to and the most common, but I love to use leftover Chuy’s Creamy Jalapeno if I have some on hand. Blue cheese is good too!

How To Store Leftovers

Cajun fried corn is best enjoyed immediately but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat in the air fryer just until heated through. You may want to warm up some additional seasoned butter to toss it in after.

Ingredients

  • 6 corn ears
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1.5 tablespoons cajun seasoning
  • oil spray olive oil or avocado oil

Cajun Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • ¾ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper add more if you like heat
  • ¼ teaspoon cracked pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Husk and thoroughly clean each corn cob. Divide into 3-4 bite-sized pieces (depending on the length of the corn) to create 1.5-inch pieces of corn.
  • Place the corn into an air fryer basket in a single layer. Spritz the corn with oil.
  • Cook on the air fryer setting at 400 degrees (preheat first if your model requires it) for 5 minutes.
  • Flip, spritz the underside with oil, and cook for an additional 5 minutes at 400 degrees. You may need an additional 1-2 minutes on each side to ensure a golden brown color. Mine took 13-14 minutes in total, rotating a few times throughout the cooking time.
  • Heat butter in a large bowl in the microwave until mostly melted, about 10-15 seconds from room temperature. Add in the cajun seasoning and whisk until smooth.
  • Add the corn directly from the air fryer into the large bowl of melted seasoned butter. Use a large spoon to toss them evenly to coat on all sides. It can be helpful to use a basting brush to get in the crevices of the corn.
  • Serve warm with ranch dressing for dipping.

Notes

To store this corn, allow it to cool fully. Then place in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.
To reheat, simply place the corn pieces in a microwave-safe dish and heat in 30-second increments until warmed through. I like to brush it with a little butter to bring it back to life.
