These Garlic Parmesan Dipped Cheeseburgers are my smoky, garlicky take on the viral dipped burger trend! Crispy-edged double smash burgers are layered with melted cheddar, smoky bacon and fresh lettuce, then sliced in half and served cut-side down in a pool of rich garlic Parmesan cream sauce. Add a side of crispy fries for dipping, and you’ve got one seriously indulgent burger dinner!

Behind this Dipped Burger Recipe
If you’ve been seeing burgers served face-down in a pool of creamy cheese sauce all over social media, you’re probably just as intrigued as I was! I love a good burger, but the idea of serving one in a warm, creamy sauce takes things to another level.
And if you’ve been around Bad Batch Baking for a while, you already know I have a serious love for garlic Parmesan everything. So naturally, I wanted to put my own spin on this trend with a buttery garlic Parmesan cream sauce, plenty of freshly grated Parmesan and a little smoked paprika for that extra depth of flavor.
For my version, I also wanted thin, crispy-edged smash burgers layered with melted cheddar, smoky bacon, and buttery toasted brioche buns. Once you slice them in half and dip them in that smoky garlic Parmesan sauce, everything comes together into one ridiculously delicious burger. And don’t even get me started on dipping the fries into the leftover sauce!

What Are Dipped Burgers?
Dipped burgers are a viral burger trend where a fully assembled cheeseburger is sliced in half and placed cut-side down into a pool of warm, creamy sauce. Instead of simply spreading sauce on the bun, the exposed layers of beef, melted cheese and bread soak up all that extra flavor.
Applebee’s helped popularize this over-the-top presentation with its O-M-Cheese Burger, served cut-side down in a sizzling skillet of cheesy sauce. The idea has since inspired all kinds of homemade dipped burger creations.
For my version, I swapped the traditional cheesy dipping sauce for something a little different: a smoky garlic Parmesan cream sauce. It’s rich and buttery, loaded with fresh garlic and Parmesan, and seasoned with Cajun spices and smoked paprika. It pairs perfectly with the crispy edges of the smash burgers and the salty bacon.
Ingredients You’ll Need & Why
These dipped cheeseburgers are made with simple burger ingredients and a quick homemade garlic Parmesan sauce. The combination of crispy beef, smoky bacon and rich cream sauce is what makes them so irresistible.
Ground beef: You’ll need one pound of ground beef divided into four 4-ounce balls. I recommend an 80/20 blend for juicy smash burgers with plenty of flavor and beautifully browned edges.
Brioche buns and butter: Soft, buttery brioche buns are perfect for these indulgent burgers. Toasting them cut-side down gives them a golden surface that helps them hold up against the cream sauce.
Cheddar cheese: A slice of cheddar on each patty adds that classic melted cheeseburger flavor. Sandwich-style slices melt beautifully over the hot beef.
Bacon and leaf lettuce: Crispy bacon adds smoky, salty crunch, while fresh lettuce provides a little contrast to all the richness.
Avocado oil, salt, and pepper: A light coating of avocado oil helps the patties cook in the skillet, while a generous sprinkle of salt and pepper seasons the beef.
Butter and fresh garlic: These create the flavor base for the sauce. Freshly minced garlic adds a much more pronounced garlic flavor than garlic powder.
Heavy cream and Parmesan: The cream reduces into a thick, velvety sauce, while freshly grated Parmesan adds salty, nutty flavor and helps it thicken.
Cajun seasoning and smoked paprika: Cajun seasoning adds savory warmth and a little kick, while smoked paprika gives the sauce its signature smoky finish.
Fresh parsley: Stirred in at the end for a pop of freshness and color.
French fries: I love serving these with crispy air-fried frozen fries. They’re easy to prepare while the burgers cook and perfect for dipping into the extra sauce.
Tips From My Kitchen
- Use 80/20 ground beef. A little fat is essential for flavorful smash burgers with crisp, deeply browned edges. Extra-lean beef won’t give you quite the same result.
- Smash immediately. Place the beef balls into the hot skillet and press them firmly into thin patties right away. Don’t wait until they’ve started cooking, and don’t continue pressing after the crust begins to form.
- Give the patties room. Cook two at a time so there’s enough space to flatten each one without crowding the skillet.
- Don’t disturb the crust. Let the patties cook undisturbed for 2–3 minutes before flipping. Use a sturdy metal spatula to scrape underneath and preserve those delicious browned edges.
- Toast the buns. This step makes a big difference! A golden, buttery surface adds flavor and helps the brioche stand up to the warm sauce.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan. Parmesan grated from a block melts more smoothly into the cream sauce than shelf-stable grated Parmesan.
- Keep the sauce thick but pourable. You want enough body to coat the exposed burger filling without turning the entire plate into soup. Let the cream reduce before adding the Parmesan.
- Add the smoked paprika. It gives the garlic Parmesan sauce a subtle smoky flavor that complements the bacon and beef.
- Dip right before serving. Assemble and slice the burgers just before placing them in the sauce. This keeps the buns from becoming overly saturated before you take that first bite.
- Don’t forget the fries! Air-fry them while the burgers are cooking so everything is hot and ready at the same time.
How to Make Garlic Parmesan Dipped Smash Burgers
These burgers come together in a few simple stages: crispy, oven-baked bacon; buttery, toasted buns; thin smash burger patties; and a quick garlic-Parmesan pan sauce. The best part is assembling everything and serving the burgers face-down in that warm, creamy sauce!
Step 1: Cook the Bacon
Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Arrange the bacon slices in a single layer and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until browned and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
While the bacon cooks, divide the ground beef into four equal 4-ounce portions and gently roll each into a ball. Avoid tightly packing the meat.
Step 2: Toast the Brioche Buns
Lightly butter the cut sides of the brioche buns.
Heat a large skillet over low heat and place the buns cut-side down. Toast until golden brown and lightly crisp, then transfer to a plate and set aside.
Wipe the skillet clean before cooking the beef.

Step 3: Make the Smash Burger Patties
Heat the skillet over medium heat and lightly coat the surface with avocado oil.
Place two beef balls in the skillet, several inches apart. Immediately use a burger press or sturdy metal spatula to press each ball firmly into an ultra-thin patty.
Season generously with salt and pepper. The patties will shrink slightly as they cook, so don’t be afraid to flatten them thin!
Allow the burgers to cook undisturbed for 2–3 minutes, until a deep brown crust forms on the bottom.
Flip each patty, season the second side, and immediately top with a slice of cheddar. Reduce the heat to low and allow the cheese to melt while the patties finish cooking.
Transfer the cooked patties to a plate and repeat with the remaining beef.

Step 4: Prepare the Fries
While the burgers are cooking, add your favorite frozen French fries to the air fryer and cook according to the package directions.
I love using a good-quality frozen fry for this recipe because it’s one less thing to make from scratch. The goal is to have them hot and crispy when you’re ready to assemble the burgers.
Step 5: Make the Smoky Garlic Parmesan Sauce
Using the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
Pour in the heavy cream, then stir in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika and freshly cracked black pepper.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently, and allow it to reduce for about 3–5 minutes until it begins to thicken.
Reduce the heat to low and stir in the freshly grated Parmesan until melted and smooth. Add the chopped parsley and stir to combine.
Taste and adjust with additional salt and pepper as needed. The sauce should be rich, creamy, and thick enough to cling to the burgers while still being easy to pour.

Step 6: Assemble the Double Cheeseburgers
Place a piece of leaf lettuce on the bottom half of each toasted brioche bun.
Stack two cheesy smash burger patties on top of the lettuce, followed by two slices of crispy bacon per burger. Add the toasted top buns.
For extra stability, insert a toothpick through each burger before slicing, if needed

Step 7: Dip and Serve
Spoon a generous pool of warm smoky garlic Parmesan sauce onto the bottom of each serving plate.
Add a pile of crispy French fries alongside the sauce.
Slice each assembled burger in half, then carefully place both halves cut-side down into the warm sauce, allowing the exposed layers of beef, cheese and toasted bun to make contact with the creamy Parmesan.
Serve immediately while the burgers are hot, the cheese is melted and the sauce is warm!

What to Serve with Dipped Cheeseburgers
Crispy French fries are practically made for this recipe! I love serving them directly on the plate alongside the dipped burgers so you can drag them through the extra garlic Parmesan sauce.
You could also serve these with sweet potato fries, crispy potato wedges or a simple side salad if you want something fresh alongside all that richness.
And if you have leftover sauce, don’t let it go to waste. It’s delicious spooned over roasted potatoes or tossed with pasta.

- 5 cloves garlic minced
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped
- freshly cracked black pepper to taste
- salt to taste
For Serving
- frozen french fries cooked according to package directions
InstructionsÂ
- Bake the bacon. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the bacon in a single layer. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until crispy. Transfer to paper towels to drain.
- Toast the brioche buns. Heat a large skillet over low heat. Place the buttered brioche buns cut-side down and toast until golden brown. Remove and set aside. Wipe the skillet clean.
- Smash the burger patties. Increase the heat to medium and lightly coat the skillet with avocado oil. Working in batches, place two 4-ounce beef balls several inches apart in the skillet. Immediately press each ball firmly into an ultra-thin patty using a burger press or sturdy metal spatula. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook and melt the cheese. Let the patties cook undisturbed for 2–3 minutes, until deeply browned on the bottom. Flip, season the second side and immediately top each patty with a slice of cheddar. Reduce the heat to low and cook until the cheese melts and the beef is cooked through. Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining patties. Loosely tent the cooked patties with foil to keep warm.
- Air-fry the french fries. While the burgers cook, prepare the frozen French fries in an air fryer according to the package directions so they're hot and crispy when the burgers are ready.
- Make the smoky garlic parmesan sauce. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream and seasonings. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently, and cook for 3–5 minutes until slightly reduced and thickened. Stir in the Parmesan until melted and smooth. Add the chopped parsley, then taste and adjust with salt and pepper.
- Assemble the double cheeseburgers. Add leaf lettuce to the bottom of each toasted brioche bun. Stack two cheesy smash burger patties on top, followed by two slices of crispy bacon. Add the top buns.
- Dip and serve. Pour a generous pool of warm garlic Parmesan sauce onto each serving plate and add the crispy French fries alongside it. Slice each cheeseburger in half and carefully place the halves cut-side down into the sauce. Secure with toothpicks if needed and serve immediately.
Notes
- Ground beef: An 80/20 blend works best for flavorful smash burgers with crispy edges.
- Smashing: Press the beef immediately after placing it in the skillet. Don’t repeatedly press as it cooks.
- Sauce consistency: Let the cream reduce until thick but pourable. If it thickens too much, stir in a splash of additional cream.
- Cajun seasoning: Salt levels vary by brand, so taste the finished sauce before adding more salt.
- Serving: Assemble and dip the burgers immediately before eating to prevent the buns from becoming overly soft.
- Storage: Refrigerate cooked patties, bacon, and sauce separately for up to 3–4 days. Reheat gently and assemble fresh.
