The Travis Scott Burger McDonald's Copycat Recipe

A friend of mine sent me a video of the Travis Scott burger that McDonald’s is featuring. I was so excited to try and remake it at home. A burger isn’t too complicated, but as you know, a burger can taste so different depending on the toppings, bread, etc. that you use. In this post, I will show you the best items to buy to make this taste identical to the McDonald’s version.

I am a plain jane when it comes to burgers. I will usually get it with limited toppings if any. Sometimes I just opt for meat and cheese. An occasional mayo or red onion might be thrown on depending on which burger joint I am eating at. But for me, ketchup is always on the side. But, I vowed to remake this burger exactly as it’s meant to be eaten and set aside my prejudice on things like pickles and mustard. Wow! This burger may have changed the toppings I put on my burgers forever…

What is The Travis Scott Burger?

The Travis Scott Burger is essentially a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, done “Travis Style”. If you aren’t familiar with Travis Scott, he is a celebrity rapper most well known for his hits Anticdote and Sickomode amongst many others. He partnered with McDonald’s to offer a custom meal – which consists of a Quarter Pounder with his favorite toppings. As you will see in the photos, this sandwich is a 1/4 pound beef patty, two slices of cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles,  and onions on a sesame bun. The Travis Scott Meal is paired with a Sprite and fries.

This is super easy to recreate at home so this isn’t so much a “recipe” as much as it is instructions and guidance on what I have found to be the best ingredients to use in order to pull off a burger that taste just like McDonalds. The advantage of making it at home is certainly the fact that it’s way less processed, less additives, and you have control over the quality of meat you use. I am a firm believer that cooking at home is greater than eating fast food.

These Special Ingredients Make the Difference:

  1. Sesame Buns  – large, pillowy soft buns are the best foundation to any great burger. In this case, a great quality sesame seed bun that is nice and sturdy to hold all of these delicious ingredients. I used Martin’s Sesame Seed Hamburger Buns. Another great brand is Sara Lee, Pepperidge Farms, Arnolds, etc. I usually avoid any cheap brands when it comes to bread. They are usually too flimsy and fall-aparty.
  2. Store Brand American Singles Cheese – I know this is shocking but Kraft Singles are a NO GO for this recipe. Surprisingly, they are a bit too strong flavored and not as gooey as store brands. I have found that store brands have a more subtle flavor and are so much more similar to McDonald’s.
  3. Fast-Food Style Pickles – I was so excited to find there was such thing as fast food style pickles. What a huge difference these make because their flavor, texture and size are completely different than regular pickle slices. I could only find these in Kroger brand, but I would assume any other brand that carries fast food style pickles should be good too.
  4. Fast-Food Style Fries (frozen) – I found Ore-Ida fast food fries in the frozen section at the grocery store. They are insanely similar to McDonald’s in size. Of course, nothing will ever taste exactly like a McDonald’s fry so I am not even going to front. I put my in the oven but if you deep fry them, it will further enhance the McDonald’s-at-home experience!

How to make the Travis Scott Burger:

• Heat a cast-iron skillet or large heavy skillet over medium-high until very hot, about 2 minutes, then lightly brush with vegetable oil.
• Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and roll into smooth rounds (do not form patties). Working in batches if needed, place rounds of meet onto the hot skillet and smash flat with the back of the spatula until very thin (meat will shrink up as it cooks). Patties should be about 5″ in diameter. Season liberally with seasoned salt and pepper and cook undisturbed, until outer edges are brown, about 4 minutes.
• Flip patties, season with remaining seasoned salt and pepper, and allow to cook for an additional 2 minutes. Add one slice of cheese to each burger. Cook until cheese droops and burgers are medium-well, about 1 minute. Allow to rest while you toast the buns.
• Reduce heat to medium. Brush inside of buns with melted butter and lay face down on the griddle to toast for about 2 minutes, rotating halfway through. Remove the buns and place one slice of cheese on the bottom of the bun.

How to Assemble the Travis Scott Burger
• Place the cheeseburger on the bottom of the bun, atop the cheese. Top with three bacon strips (I snapped in half so they would better fit onto the burger). In this order add; shredded lettuce, pickles, onion. On the top bun, add about 2 tablespoons of ketchup and 1 tablespoon mustard. Serve immediately with fast-food style fries.
