Fresh cherries are muddled, then mixed with Dr. Pepper and vanilla creamer to get a refreshing and sweet Cherry Pie Dirty Soda. This three-ingredient non-alcoholic beverage can be enjoyed any time of the day.
Behind the recipe
This is a cherry vanilla dream! It’s like a creamy cherry vanilla float that doesn’t carry the calories or sugar of adding ice cream – but all the satisfaction. Plus, the taste of real fresh cherries.
The dirty soda movement is on the rise, and I am here for it! It gives us the ability to enjoy a cute and delicious seasonal, festive drink anytime of the day without the need to add alcohol (which makes it perfect for kids and adults alike). If you’ve made my creamy frozen Whipped Dr. Pepper or my caramel apple Alani Witches Brew, then you know how much I adore making these fun drinks.
What’s in Cherry Pie Dirty Soda
You’ll love that this cherry vanilla dirty soda only needs three ingredients and uses fresh cherries and cherry juice to provide an authentic cherry flavor.
Cherries – fresh or frozen and thawed dark red cherry. These have a deep rich cherry flavor. If fresh cherries are not in season, the frozen ones are just as good!
Dr. Pepper – ice cold Dr Pepper is used to enhance the subtle cherry flavor in this soda.
Vanilla Creamer – I prefer Chobani brand as there aren’t any emulsifiers or thickeners added. Their ingredients list is pretty straightforward.
Dr. Pepper substitute?
If you’re looking for a soda alternative to Dr. Pepper, you could use root beer, cola, or lemon-lime soda. They all pair well with the cherry vanilla flavor.
But if you want to skip on the calories and sugar, try a prebiotic soda like Ollipop’s cherry vanilla.
Of course, you can always use Diet Dr. Pepper as well.
How to make Cherry Pie Dirty Soda
This cherry vanilla dirty soda is a decadent, sweet and creamy drink that you’re guaranteed to love. What you’ll love even more, is how easy it is to make.
- Mince the cherries until they are small enough to easily fit through a straw. You should have a few spoonfuls of cherry juice from chopping the cherries, set that aside.
- Use a frother (or smoothie blender) to make a cold foam with the vanilla creamer and the preserved cherry juice. It should be thick and creamy but easily pourable.
- Fill the bottom of each glass with 4 tablespoons of minced cherries. Add ice cubes enough to fill 2/3 of the each glass.
- Pour in the Dr Pepper, leaving 2 inches of space at the top. Then add in the cherry vanilla cold foam. Carefully stir as the carbonation can make it overflow if agitated too much.
Looking to change it up?
Try making this with cream soda for a more nostalgic, vanilla-forward taste, or use a lemon-lime soda for a creamy cherry limeade vibe.
You could also use maraschino cherries instead of real cherries. That will be closer to the cherry flavor that’s found in a Shirley Temple.
