Tik Tok Million Dollar Spaghetti

I’ve been seeing Million Dollar Spaghetti all over my Tik Tok and social media feeds for years.  Today, I finally decided to give this baked spaghetti recipe a try with my own spin on it. The result was incredible – a lusciously creamy, tomatoey spaghetti with a toasted cheesy top that is just perfect for a Sunday dinner.

We’ll be using a combination of Italian sausage and ground beef in the marinara sauce mixture. The addition of Italian sausage adds so much flavor to this million dollar spaghetti.

But the scratch-made alfredo sauce really steals the show. You could use your favorite store-bought alfredo sauce, but the addition of these real ingredients shine through. You taste the grated parmesan, freshly minced garlic, heavy cream, etc. No fillers, no preservatives. You can truly taste the difference.

Key Ingredients

Angel hair pasta – you can also use regular spaghetti, thin spaghetti, linguini or even fettucini.

Marinara sauce – use your favorite store-bought sauce, we love Michael’s of Brooklyn.

Cheese – parmesan for the alfredo sauce, and a combination of mozzarella, fontina and provolone for the cheese topping.

Ground beef – rather than use 1 lb of ground beef, we’re using a combination of beef and ground Italian sausage.

Italian sausage – ground hot Italian sausage (or use mild).

Heavy cream – this will be the base of the alfredo cream sauce.

Cream Cheese – this adds even more creaminess to the alfredo sauce.

Garlic – freshly minced garlic is optimal.

Butter – the base for the alfredo sauce.

Onions & Green onion– these add aromatics to the baked spaghetti.

Seasonings – Italian seasoning, salt and freshly cracked pepper, red pepper flakes.

How to Make Tik Tok Million Dollar Spaghetti

Make the Alfredo Sauce

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil while preparing the alfredo sauce. In a large skillet over medium low heat, melt 6 tablespoons of butter. Add in the garlic and stir until fragrant. Pour in the cream and bring to a low boil then simmer about 5 minutes, allowing the cream to thicken.

Add in the parmesan cheese and cream cheese, whisk until melted and the sauce is thicken (it will continue to thicken more as it cools). Add in salt to taste, red pepper flakes and freshly cracked pepper.

Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook to al dente. Strain and return to the pot, then pour in the alfredo sauce and toss until the pasta is evenly coated. Clean out the alfredo skillet as we’ll reuse this for browning the meat.

Cook the Meat

Into the skillet over medium heat add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add in the beef and sausage, mincing it as it cooks. After about 2 minutes add in the peppers, onions and garlic and saute while the meat cooks. Pour in the marinara sauce, Italian seasonings and salt and pepper to taste. Stir it together so the sauce evenly incorporates.

Layer & Bake

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Into a greased large cast iron skillet or 9×13 casserole dish, add the alfredo smothered spaghetti and spread it evenly. Pour over the marinara meat sauce on top of the spaghetti, leveling it out with a spatula. For the final layer, add shredded cheese over the entire top of the baking  dish. Bake for 20 minutes and optionally, broil for an additional 5 minutes.

** Note: just like when making a lasagna, the sauce can bubble over and spill on the bottom of the oven. To prevent this, I layer a baking sheet with foil and place it on the rack underneath the baking dish.

How to Reheat Million Dollar Spaghetti?

This cozy pasta bake can be reheated using the best practices I use for reheating most pasta dishes. Add a few splashes of broth (whatever you have on hand; chicken, beef, veggie) over the top of the portioned pasta.

Heat in the microwave for about 2-2.5 minutes, mixing around every 40 seconds or so. The liquid helps to bring the pasta back to life as it absorbs all the liquid as solidifies as it refrigerates. If you don’t have broth, just water or even dry white or red wine.
