Whenever I am eating healthier, one of the foods I have to give up is smoothies from Tropical Smoothie, Jamba Juice, or Smoothie King. They have such a healthy rep but in reality they are full of sugar and carbs. Have you ever looked at the nutrition facts…? It’s depressing, really.
But I recently discovered that if you ask for “no Turbinado / no sugar, etc” you save at least half of the calories, sugar and carbs. Tropical Smoothie is more popular in the area that I live in, so this is where I frequent the most. But you can make this request at any smoothie shop.
I told my sister about the “no sugar” hack and now she is completely obsessed too. We go back and forth sharing our newly discovered addictions. She introduced me to Orange Ginger Glow – it sounds like you will have a glowing, dewy tan when you are finished drinking it. We are both convinced this is true, so I make sure to keep it in my weekly rotation ๐
We have found several amazing smoothies that are all equally good with no sugar in them. Detox Island Green is already free of sugar, but it’s truly a great smoothie and you get several cups of raw greens without tasting it.
But if you want more of a guiltless “treat”, I often get Peaches N’ Silk or my new LOVE, which I am here to talk about today, Kiwi Quencher. This smoothie is absolute heaven. I tried one sip and had to walk back into the store to confirm that this definitely had no sugar added to it. Perhaps it’s only this good in the peak of the summer season when fruits are at their ripest. Fresh, ripe kiwi is what truly gives this smoothie so much sweetness.
My homemade version of this smoothie adds protein as well. I have tried it with both vanilla and chocolate. I can’t decide which I love more.
If you have a good brand of protein that doesn’t have an overwhelming vitamin taste, it will be even more ideal. My favorite protein of all times is Integrated Protein. I actually stumbled upon it at Target, believe it or not. I was desperate for a new protein and Vitamin Shoppe was closed. I took a chance and assumed it would taste awful. It’s a pure isolate protein with amazing flavor, and it’s extremely clean with pure, simple ingredients. You can likely find it at your local Target too or buy it on Amazon here.

Prep time | 5 minutes |
Ingredients
- 3/4 cups nonfat Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup almond milk, unsweetened
- 2 scoops protein powder
- 1 1/2 kiwi fruit, cut into chunks (skin removed)
- 6-7 strawberries, cut into chunks
- 1 1/2 cube ice cubes
Directions
In a high powered blender, add greek yogurt, almond milk, fruits and protein powder. Add the ice and blend on medium high, until desired texture is reached. You can add a little more ice or an additional splash of almond milk as needed. |
Thanks Mallory, this is perfect for the summer. It looks so refreshing. Would it be okay to make it without protein powder or does that change the texture of the drink?
Good question! It’s absolutely perfect without protein powder. Sometimes I do it that way too. You don’t really need to change the measurements at all. Sometimes I will add a splash more or less almond milk based on how it’s blending together.
If you still wanted to add a little chocolate flavor, you could always add a few teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder. Let me know how you like it ๐
