Cookie Fries are everything you love about a warm chocolate chip cookie, shaped like fries for the ultimate dunkable dessert. Their long, fry-like shape creates the perfect ratio of chewy centers to lightly crisp edges, making them ideal for dunking into ice-cold milk, warm chocolate fudge, caramel sauce, marshmallow fluff, or your favorite sweet dip.

Behind This Cookie Fries Recipe
These Cookie Fries have been a tradition in our house since 2016, back when my husband and I first moved in together. He’s always had the biggest sweet tooth, and one of his favorite desserts has always been warm chocolate chip cookies with an ice-cold glass of milk. The only problem? He was constantly breaking cookies into pieces trying to dunk them.
So one day I decided to surprise him. Instead of baking another batch of round cookies, I rolled the dough into long, skinny “fries” that were the perfect size for dunking. They held up beautifully in a glass of milk, gave him the perfect ratio of crispy edges to chewy centers, and were just fun to eat. From that moment on, these chocolate chip cookie fries became our special little tradition, and now we can share it with our son.
Now, anytime I’m making these for a movie night, birthday, or just because we’re craving something sweet, I always remember to pop a glass of milk into the freezer for about 20 minutes before the cookies come out of the oven. There’s just something about warm chocolate chip cookies and an extra-cold glass of milk that never gets old.

Tips From My Kitchen
Whip the butter and sugars for a full five minutes. This step creates a lighter, chewier cookie and is well worth the extra time.
Freeze the dough before baking. Chilling the cookie fries helps them keep their long, fry-like shape in the oven.
Add extra chocolate chunks halfway through baking. Pressing a few additional chocolate chunks onto the tops gives the cookies that bakery-style finish.
Don’t overbake. The centers should still look slightly underdone when you pull them from the oven. They’ll continue baking on the hot pan as they cool.
Finish with flaky sea salt. A sprinkle of fleur de sel makes the chocolate flavors pop and balances the sweetness beautifully.
Don’t worry if they spread a little. While the cookies are still warm from the oven, use the straight edge of a small spatula or bench scraper to gently nudge the sides back into shape. It’s a simple bakery trick that keeps them looking like French fries.
Ingredients You’ll Need & Why
These Cookie Fries use simple baking staples, but a few small techniques and ingredient choices are what give them their signature chewy texture and rich chocolate flavor. Using two kinds of chocolate creates the perfect balance of sweetness, while melted butter gives every bite a soft, bakery-style consistency.
All-Purpose Flour – Provides the structure needed to hold the fry shape while still baking up soft and chewy.
Cornstarch – A secret ingredient that creates an incredibly tender cookie with a soft center.
Melted Butter – When butter is melted, the fat coats the flour differently than softened butter. This limits the amount of air incorporated into the dough and encourages more gluten development, resulting in a dense, chewy cookie instead of a light, cakey one.
Granulated & Brown Sugar – Using both sugars creates the ideal chocolate chip cookie. Brown sugar adds moisture, chewiness, and a rich caramel flavor, while granulated sugar helps the edges become lightly crisp and gives the cookies structure. Together, they create that perfect balance of soft, chewy centers and golden, bakery-style edges.
Egg + Extra Egg Yolk – The additional yolk creates a richer dough and helps keep the cookies soft for days.
Chocolate – While chocolate chips work perfectly well, I highly recommend chopping up good-quality chocolate bars into chunks whenever possible. The irregular pieces create beautiful puddles of melted chocolate throughout the cookies and give them that elevated, bakery-style look and rich chocolate flavor that’s hard to achieve with traditional chocolate chips.
Flaky Sea Salt – An optional finishing touch that balances the sweetness and makes the chocolate stand out even more.
How to Make Cookie Fries
These cookie fries start with classic chocolate chip cookie dough, then are rolled into long, fry-like shapes that bake up with crispy edges and chewy centers. A quick chill helps them hold their shape, and if they spread a little in the oven, a simple bakery trick will have them looking just like fries before they finish cooling.
Make the Cookie Dough
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until it’s combined. Add the vanilla, egg, and egg yolk, then continue mixing. The mixture should become lighter in color and noticeably creamier as air is incorporated.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until no dry streaks remain. Fold in both varieties of chocolate using a rubber spatula.

Shape the Cookie Fries
Using about one heaping tablespoon of dough, roll each portion into an even log roughly five inches long and about half an inch thick. I like rolling them between my palms or gently against the countertop until they’re smooth and even.
Arrange the cookie fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving about two inches between each one, then freeze for about 20 minutes. This will help them keep their shape while they bake.

Bake
Bake until the edges are lightly golden while the centers still look slightly underbaked. Halfway through baking, rotate the pan and gently press a few extra chocolate pieces onto the tops of the cookie fries for that bakery-style look.
Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for about five minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling. Immediately after they are removed from the oven, sprinkle with flaky sea salt and use a spatula to nudge the edges back into a fry shape if they spread.

Serve & Enjoy
Serve the Cookie Fries on a platter with small bowls of warm chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, marshmallow fluff, vanilla icing, or your favorite dessert dip.
How to Serve & Store
These Cookie Fries are at their absolute best served slightly warm with plenty of dipping sauces on the side. Arrange them in a paper-lined fry basket or small serving tray for an appetizing presentation.
Store leftover Cookie Fries in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. A quick 10-second trip to the microwave brings them right back to that warm, fresh-from-the-oven goodness. In the unlikely event you have leftovers, I like to wrap them in portions of 3–4 cookies and freeze them in a zip-top bag. That way, whenever a cookie craving hits, you can grab a perfectly portioned serving and let it thaw on the counter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Freezing helps the cookie fries keep their long shape while baking and prevents them from spreading too much.
Make sure the dough is thoroughly chilled before baking and avoid over-softening the butter before mixing.
Absolutely. Freeze the shaped cookie fries on a baking sheet, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag. Bake directly from frozen, adding an extra minute or two to the baking time.

- ¾ cup chopped bittersweet chocolate (or chocolate chips)
- extra chopped chocolate for topping

- melted chocolate for dipping (or your favorite dessert topping)
Instructions
Make the Cookie Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to beat together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract, egg, and egg yolk. Continue beating for 5 full minutes, scraping down the bowl occasionally, until the mixture becomes light in color and creamy. This step is key to achieving a rich, chewy cookie.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate by hand using a rubber spatula.
Shape the Cookie Fries
- Scoop about 1 heaping tablespoon of dough and roll it into an even log approximately 5 inches long and ½-inch thick. Using gloves, I like rolling the dough between my palms or between my hand and the countertop until smooth.

- Freeze for 20 minutes. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
Bake

- Sprinkle with flaky sea salt, if desired.
- Let cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
- Whip the butter and sugars for a full 5 minutes. This creates a lighter dough with an incredibly chewy texture.

- Freeze before baking. Chilling the dough helps the cookie fries hold their signature shape.
- Shape while warm. If the cookies spread a little in the oven, gently use a spatula or bench scraper to nudge the sides back into shape while they’re still warm.
- Don’t overbake. The centers should still look slightly underdone when you remove them from the oven. They’ll continue baking as they cool.
- Serve for dunking. These Cookie Fries were designed to be dunked! Pair them with an extra-cold glass of milk, warm chocolate fudge, caramel sauce, marshmallow fluff, or vanilla icing.
