Behind This Whipped Diet Coke Recipe

If you also have a soft spot for fun drinks and love dirty sodas like me, you will love this recipe! After creating my Whipped Dr Pepper (which ended up going viral), I couldn’t stop thinking about what other sodas would be just as delicious whipped into a creamy frozen treat.

Diet Coke felt like the obvious next choice. It has such a loyal following, and I wanted to turn it into something that felt a little more special than simply pouring it over ice. As someone who also loves blended drinks like my Frozen Mudslide and coffeehouse frappuccinos, I found this recipe to be the perfect mash-up of all three: part dirty soda, part frozen frappe, and completely refreshing.

The result is light, creamy, fizzy, and surprisingly nostalgic. Topped with whipped cream and a cherry, it tastes like something you’d order from an old-fashioned soda fountain, only made right at home.

Tips From My Kitchen

  • Freeze the Diet Coke overnight: The longer the cubes freeze, the thicker and creamier your finished drink will be.
  • Use sweet cream creamer: It gives the most authentic soda fountain flavor, but vanilla creamer is a delicious substitute.
  • Adjust the consistency: Add another splash of Diet Coke for a thinner drink or blend in a few extra frozen cubes if you’d like it even thicker.
  • Serve immediately: This drink has the best texture right after blending, while it’s still thick, frosty, and creamy.
  • Don’t skip the toppings: The whipped cream, cherry, and splash of fresh Diet Coke make it taste just like an old-fashioned soda fountain treat.
  • Low-calorie swap: If you want to skip the sugar and calories, you can select a sugar-free vanilla creamer and whipped cream.

Ingredients You’ll Need & Why

With only three ingredients, each one helps create the perfect creamy, frosty texture while keeping that classic Diet Coke flavor.

Diet Coke – Freezing the soda into ice cubes is the secret to creating a thick, slushy texture without watering down the flavor. You’ll use frozen Diet Coke cubes for the base, then blend in a fresh can for extra creaminess and fizz.

Sweet Cream Creamer – Sweet cream coffee creamer gives the drink its rich, silky texture and subtle vanilla sweetness. Vanilla creamer also works beautifully if that’s what you have on hand.

Whipped Cream & Maraschino Cherry – The finishing touch that turns this from a frozen soda into a nostalgic soda fountain-style treat.

How to Make Whipped Diet Coke

Here’s how to make this creamy frozen drink in just a few simple steps.

Freeze the Diet Coke

At least 4 hours ahead—or preferably the night before—fill an ice cube tray with Diet Coke and freeze until completely solid.

The cubes should be frozen all the way through so they blend into a thick, creamy consistency instead of melting too quickly.

Add the frozen Diet Coke cubes to a high-powered blender along with one 7.5-ounce can of Diet Coke and the sweet cream creamer.

Blend Everything Together

Blend until completely smooth and creamy. The mixture should look thick, frosty, and almost milkshake-like. If you’d like it thinner, simply blend in another splash of Diet Coke.

Assemble the Drink

Pour the whipped Diet Coke into a tall glass, leaving about 2 inches of room at the top.

Finish with a splash of fresh Diet Coke to bring back a little fizz, then top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately while it’s thick, creamy, and ice-cold.

How to Serve & Store Leftovers

This Whipped Diet Coke is best enjoyed immediately after blending, while it’s thick, frosty, and creamy. Pair it with burgers, hot dogs, barbecue, or your favorite summertime snacks for a fun twist on a classic soda. Because it’s a frozen blended drink, it doesn’t store well, so it’s best made fresh each time.
